The spiritual Guru and guide of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, born at Jamb in Marathawada in 1608.  At the age of 12 , he went to Nashik and started spiritual study for 12 years. After that he toured throughout the country ("Tirthatan") for 12 years. Later he started his spiritual guidance at "Chaphal" near Umbraj. He established 1100 Mathas. Besides 'Prabhu Ramchandra" he was devotee of lord 'Hanuman' and built several Hanuman Temples. He preached all human beings through his great work ' Dasbodh' and 'Manache Shlok'.  In Maharashtra, 'Dasbodh' is considered as next to 'Bhagwat Geeta'.

     He not only given spiritual guidance but also teached how to live life. He had given more stress on physical fitness.

     Because of his moral support & guidance, Ch.Shivaji Maharaj was able to establish the great 'Hindvi Swaraj'. Ch.Shivaji Maharaj requested him to stay at 'Parali' fort which later named as 'Sajjangad'.  Even today the big annual function on 'Das Navami' is celebrated at Sajjangad with lacks of devotees

     Ramshastri Prabhune born at 'Mahuli' near Satara. He was the supreme judiciary authority in 'Peshwai'. He has established the highest ethics and morals. After the murder of 'Narayan Peshwa' on 13th Dec.1772 Raghunathrao has declared himself as 'Peshwa'. In the case of murder of Narayanrao, justice Ramshastri Prabhune sentenced Raghunathrao to hang till death.

     The name 'Ramshastri' is still remembered for his great courage and  justice.

     'Chhatrapati Shahu' the Raja of Satara, the successor of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj , died in 1810 AD was succeeded by his son 'Pratapsinh'. He has done memorable work in his period, examples are in the field of education, water supply, road from Satara to M'shwar. He also tried to establish 'Mahabaleshwar' as hill station. He ruled till 1839.

     He honored by Royal Asiatic Society of London in 1823.

     Laxmibai Tambe born at Dhavadashi Dist.Satara, became Queen of Zanshi after her marriage in Newalkar Family of 'Zanshi' . British Govt. wanted to dissolve her 'Sansthan' and merge it into the British Raj, by rejecting her adoption of child as a successor.

     She started the war with British Rule in the age of 23.   It was so powerful that  British Govt. was unable to fight against her. Her slogan 'Meri Zanshi Nahi Dungi' was the famous aspiration for freedom struggle in 1857.

     Nanasaheb Ramchandra Patil, popularly known as 'Krantisinh Nana Patil' was the topmost revolutionary in freedom struggle of India. He established parallel Govt. named as Prati Sarkar (' popularly known as 'Patri Sarkar')  for 4 and half years ( Aug.1943 to May 1946) in 150 villages.

     The devoted leader was several times imprisoned during struggle with British Raj. For a period of 44 months he was underground in 'Quit India' movement in 1942. Instead of only non co-operative movement, his method of direct attack to British Govt. was widely accepted in this district.  He died on 6th Dec. 1976.

     The first lady teacher in India, Savitribai Phule was born at Naigaon, Tal. Khandala, Dist.Satara. She was wife of 'Mahatma Jyotiba Phule' . She laid foundation of woman education in the country. The credit of progress of woman up till now in all fields really goes to her.
